Glendalough & Wicklow Mountains

On Friday, the group travelled to Glendalough and the Wicklow mountains under the clear Irish sky, and we soaked up the sun as we walked along the beach at the upper lake of Glendalough. After, the group was able to choose one of two different trails winding through the forest. The walk was pleasant and we stopped to take pictures with running rivers and monastic cemeteries. A short ice cream break was obligatory on such a wonderful day, but we soon headed back on the road, en route to the Wicklow mountains.
Upon exiting our vans, the surroundings were not anything special, but after trekking up a small hill we were astounded by the vast rolling hills that seemed to have come straight out of a typical Ireland postcard. Our group was eager to peek over the edge of the cliff, wanting to take the best pictures possible to share with friends and family. The sunset backdrop in combination with the stunning view was clearly a scenic highlight of our trip. On the way back to our residences at UCD, we enjoyed a paper bag dinner in our vans, stopping at the Wellington monument. It was described as a small-scale Washington monument, featuring important events in Irish history. The group then climbed onto the monument, creating the perfect photo opportunity for the teachers down below. All in all, this excursion was the perfect way to end our time in Ireland, showing us the true beauty that the Irish culture and land can offer.
