Ballet at the Baths of Caracalla

Last night was the perfect opportunity to sit outside and enjoy an evening filled with entertainment. The rain from the early afternoon had cleared up, leaving open skies and a comfortably cool atmosphere. Those who wanted to attend a ballet at the Baths of Caracalla (Terme di Caracalla) were treated to a show featuring L’Arlesienne and Carmen. A pleasant surprise was that once the lights dimmed to cue the beginning of the show, the audience was welcomed to discreetly move forward and obtain better seats.

The majority of the group found L’Arlesienne easier to understand, but of lesser quality in terms of dance and entertainment. Carmen featured far more impressive dancers and the humour was enjoyable for everyone, although it was difficult to understand the plot of the story.

All in all, the group was thoroughly in awe of the wonderful performances, but more so of the spectacular venue. After the ballet, we headed back towards our hotel and stopped for some delicious gelato. Reflecting on the night, many students found that they were surprised with how much they enjoyed it, and everyone agreed that it was well worth the late night’s trip.
